20 Twaddell Hydrometer
An instrument used to determine the specific gravity of liquids, sizes, etc. The stem is graduated and instruments are supplied in sets of six. No. 1 registering 1 to 24, No. 2, 25 to 48, and so on. Degrees Twaddell are changed into specific gravity by the formula (Tw. X 0.005) + 1. Thus if a size mixing gives a Twaddell reading of 28 deg. the specific gravity is (28 x 0.005) + 1 = 0.14 + 1 = 1.14 s.g.Dictionary of the English textile terms > Twaddell Hydrometer
